| The 125th Anniversary of the Birth of the Automobile |
2011 marks 125 years since the birth of the car, and Volkswagen Group has written some of the most important chapters of this extraordinary historic epic. This year it will celebrate at the Mille Miglia.
The Volkswagen Classic began with its two "bugs" which aroused such enthusiasm in the fifties. One of these models will be participating in this year's Mille Miglia 2011, driven by Dr. Michael Macht, a member of Volkswagen's board and the head of the strategy division for production and planning for the founding company.
Porsche instead is going to participate in a Spyder 550. Driving this car in 1954, Hans Herrmann and Herbert Linge, came in sixth over-all, in spite of some technical problems.
Audi is presenting a brief summary of its own history with 5 DKW models from the fifties. Among the cars at the starting line in May will also be the DKW 3-6 Monza, which at the time was extraordinarily innovative.
Bentley will show off its past with a model from 1929, a car that has already received its laurels with a string of victories, and has also physically participated in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1930. Driving it in the Mille Miglia 2011 will be Bentley's C.E.O., Wolfgang Durheimer.
Bugatti will also be there with a Type 35 T, a car that experts consider the most successful racing model of all times.
During the Mille Miglia 2011, Volkswagen Group will also present a selection of its latest models, among which will be some surprises: the new Golf convertible, the new Audi A6, and the new Porsche Panamera S hybrid. |
